THE STORY OF ACORN KENNELS & CATTERY

How it started...

Hi, my name is Emma and I am the owner and founder of Acorn Kennels & Cattery.

Le Chateau was originally a holiday home which we bought in 2000...the grand plan was to spend glorious summer holidays here and eventually retire here when the time came! However life had a different plan for us and circumstances meant that we moved permanently to France in 2001. By 2004, with a toddler at my feet and a husband who worked abroad during the week, we realised things needed to change.

Knowing that I was a qualified Veterinary Nurse, a friend suggested running a boarding kennels and the idea soon became a reality. Our original kennels opened in 2005 and were located in the shade of a majestic oak tree, hence the name Acorn Kennels. As the saying goes 'mighty oaks from little acorns grow' and this is what I hoped would happen to my business. It soon became clear that we needed a cattery too, as many of my dog owners also had cats and wanted to board them in the same place. A temporary cattery was built in 2006 and we haven't looked back since. The business has grown from strength to strength and the original kennels and cattery have been replaced with modern purpose built blocks - our new kennel block opened in 2011 and the new cattery opened in 2015. We now have 10 dog kennels and 13 cat chalets and we won't be adding any more accommodation as I firmly believe in spending quality time with your pets to ensure they are as happy and relaxed as possible, and I couldn't do that if we increased our capacity.

Of course we couldn't have done it without the support and loyalty of our customers and I am proud that they have the confidence to leave their beloved pets with me.
